and Bookworm I have read that book at least 7 times and it definitely describes her as "a broad square jawed witch with very short gray hair" on page 138 of the American eddition of OOTP. (emphasis on broad)

I honestly thought that that lady who played the Slavine on Doctor Who would make a great Umbrige (not ment as an insult)XD

Definetly First dumbledore was perfect too bad he died then we got this yelling idiot who doesn't show the sweet kindness dumbledore has

I would've preferred Wendy Richards aka Pauline Fowler as Umbridge.
And maybe they could get Rik Mayall for the next movie.

i agree that they can't get everything right but umbridge is a main character of the fifth book and i feel like some of her nastiness (the reason she is such a good character) may be taken away if she isn't ugly and toadlike as described.

Seriously, people should stop CRITICIZING these little things.
I think that the actress for Umbridge suits her role well - not because of her appearance, but the way she's able to get into the character. They can't find the PERFECT person for each character, you know?
Something that CAN be criticized, in my opinion, is Michael Gambon as Dumbledore... seriously... the outfit, the tied beard, the SHOUTING, OVERREACTING... now THAT's something to be criticized about.

I think she better then described in the books. she now looks so neat and descent, that way it is more surprising that there is such a toad of a woman underneath it.

Umbridge was definitely described in the books as short, squat and toadlike. They definitely should have found someone shorter, heavier and less attractive than Ms. Staunton to play Professor Umbridge (but then again, I never envisioned Hermione as resembling Emma Watson either!)

to tell u the truth i recall umbridge being described as tall and skinny not short and plump. but again it may be what i imagined her to be, though i cant wait to see the movie and i am dying to read the 7th book....
