Each of these needs the symbol before and after the phrase. No spaces between the symbol and phrase.
Bold * (shift-8)
Italics ?? (two ? marks)
Subscript (small) ~ (usually shift-`, next to the key for 1 or Esc)
Superscript (small) ^ (shift-6)
Strikethrough – (note: if a space is added between the – and the phrase, the – will show up)
To change the size, these symbols must be placed at the beginning of the line; does not need to be placed at the end (though I always do, since it’s easier to remember)
Large font ## (two shift-3’s)
Really large size # (Shift-3)
To make large and italics: Always put the # or ## first, then embed the ?? inside them. Otherwise, you will just get italicized # signs that are normal size.
